Instrumentation Technician - Sensors and Control

The Instrumentation Technician will work under the supervision of the Research Leader in the Sensors and Control group where novel sensors based on near-infrared spectroscopy are being developed to provide the information required for improved process control. On-line sensors are being developed for wood chips, lime mud and pulping liquors for use in advanced control strategies for fibre line and chemical recovery unit operations. The Instrumentation Technician will assist in the development, deployment and ongoing field support of novel sensors.
Support development and application of on-line analyzers through design and assembly of instrument cabinets and software;
Support instrumentation projects in other Pulp and Paper & Bioproduct departments;
Support instrumentation and process control applications in the Pulp and Paper & Bioproduct pilot plant;
Designing and prototyping electrical circuits;
Documentation of work through creation of schematics and instrument drawings;
Testing of electrical equipment utilizing oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters and process calibrators;
Installation and calibration of process transmitters;
Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
Demonstrate creativity and the ability to find solutions;
Use good laboratory practices and be familiar with the principles of safe laboratory practices (health & safety);
T ravel of up to 25% may be required.
Diploma in instrumentation or equivalent and/or any other related field;
Minimum 2-5 years of related work experience;
Experience working with on-line instrumentation and control systems in the process industries desirable;
Hands-on knowledge and experience in instrumentation design and assembly;
Programming skills in C, C+, C++, PLC programming, LabVIEW, .NET Framework and AutoCAD;
Basic knowledge of chemistry;
Ability to travel across Canada and work in industrial environments will be required;
Good written and verbal communication skills with high standards for quality in English.
